First Buck
It was the day after Thanksgiving 2006. Dad dropped me off on one side of the woods at like 7 A.M. Then he went and parked on the other side and walked to his spot. While we were in the truck i told him that i had the cellphone on vibrate so he could call me. I was in my hunting spot for about an hour. I was sitting up against a tree on the ground at the top of a hill. Harvested corn field to my back. Dad called me on the cell and told me that there were deer in front of him about 40 or 50 yards and he told me that they were slowly walking my way in the corn field, so I turned around and faced the corn field and about every 30 seconds I looked behind me. One of the times I looked behind me, I seen three doe jumping behind me at least 60 yards. I seen that they stopped and were starring at a few cars going by. So I turned around while they were distracted and at the corner of my eye I seen about a eight point buck just at the edge of the hill but I couldn't see it then. It didn't notice me yet so it kept taking a few steps forward and look up at me every few seconds then finally I got my 20 gauge into position and shot it in the heart about 15 yards away. It ran behind a tree about 60 yards away. It was my first deer so I didn't know how long to wait for it to die. So I waited like 30 seconds and started walking down the hill and all of a sudden it started running again. Then my dad and I tried to track it. we tracked it at least 100 yards then the blood trail disappeared in the tall grass. So later my brother-in-law, my brother and I went and seached for it and kicked up either the same deer or a different buck and shot that in the butt, which I also didn't know that you weren't supposed to shoot it in the butt. Then it ran over a hill and jumped across the creek and disappeared into a bunch of thorns. So we ran over there and we started hearing something in the bushes. Then we seen it struggled to get up out of the bushes then it finally got up and started running and my brother-in-law took the gun and tried to shoot it from a little distance and it kept running. So he tracked it across a cornfield while me and my brother went to get the truck. We drove over there where the buck had crossed the road and tracked through another filed along a pine tree line, then it turned left and went across where the combines go across to different fields. We trackked it along another field, it jumped down into a small ceek which we thought it jumped up on the other side where there was a thicket, but it turned around jumped up onto the same land and went farther and jumped a fence and went about 50 yards along antoher field and then we lost the blood trail. The End
