12-08-07: My 11 year-old son killed his first deer with the same gun I had killed mine with at age 11. I was fortunate enough to be with him and get it all on video...

My Dad dropped me off on one side of the 3500 acre lease and told me I could squirrel hunt (with my rat terrier) across the lease to where a group was building a deer stand. Did I mention at the time I was 11 years old?? He gave directions like, "Go down about a mile and three-quarters and you'll see a big hill on your right...", and "after a while you'll come up on a fence that's been laying down for about 20 years...". Needless to say, I didn't make it through the lease to the other side, so after walking for about 7 hours, I did what my Dad had taught me if I ever got lost (or couldn't get to where I was going), I sat down where he dropped me off. Thankfully, a couple of guys we knew came by and drove me around to the other side of the lease to where everyone was working on the deer stand. To make matters worse, the only thing my "squirrel" dog rat-terrier chased that day was armadillos !!

When it gets too hot to hunt hogs (pork fat rules!), I'm on the water either fishing or cruisin'.

Raised on hunting since I was 10 years old. Grew up hunting on a 3500 acre lease. Now it's getting tough to even find a hundred or so acres thats fit to lease and hunt.

The Legacy, a Savage 110 7mm-mag, a Savage 30-30 pump (that thing's killed more deer than smallpox has killed people), Mossberg 270 (my wife's...but I still sneak it out every now and then)

You'll never see anything if you don't go...something my granddad said to me one time when I told him that I had overslept one morning and didn't get in the woods. A few years later I took that to heart one New Year's Day (after a little celebrating the night before) and killed the biggest buck of my life at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Thanks Clarence...
