the first year bow hunting with my older brother chuck he was in a tree only about 15 feet up.i was sitting on the ground about 30 yards away next to a big downed tree it was a neat area to hunt the woods had big pine tree's mixed in here and there, it was always a bit darker in the thick pines and after about a half hour or so before dark from the thick brush steps out a mid sized 8 point he was low and wide, he steps out on to the trail and starts walking my way he must have seen my head turn and stoped, as this is going on HE steps out HOLY CRAP is going thruogh my head a big big basket racked 8 point walks out from behind the smaller one. the low racked 8 took off leaving behind the big boy he and i were eye to eye 25 yards away waiting to see who would blink first my older brother chuck is drawing back his bow set's up on his chest and WHACK the arrow find's it's spot and the big 8 run's back the way it came from he went only about 70 yard's and fell the monster basket racked 8 weighed around 270 lbs on the hoof it ended up winning the erie sports store's big buck contest that hunt is what hooked me for life, and has kept me on the ground hunting, WOW what a rush being right eye level with a bow to the mighty whitetail bucks that keeps us returning to our favorite hunting spots year after year.

Hi Jack,

Got your message and wanted to pass along some great material for training your water and game dog...  I really like the training methods used by Butch Goodwin. Butch has a training manual and dvd called "retrievers from the inside out...  Its really good and takes you on a step by step training program from the time the dog is a pup...

Google Butch Goodwin and you will find a lot of articles and also his traing manual...

Good luck and there is nothing more rewarding than putting your dog through the training as a pup and enjoying the a true hunting companion for many years to follow...  Remember, in order to train a dog, you have to earn his trust....

Good luck....
